I kinda dyed the inside of my microwave purple…
Thanks for everyone’s comments. I tried a few more variations of the cream plus metallic and other things, but it just isn’t working. I’ve already frogged the border that I did last night after posting to test whether or not one row of the cream would show up. The problem with purple is that I already tried every shade of purple made by DMC, Crescent Colours, Dinky Dyes, The Gentle Art, Dragon Floss and Carrie’s Threads. The shade in the fabric is just odd enough that nothing works.
So, since I’m working from home today anyway, I decided to throw the rest of the length of cream silk that I was using into a mini purple dye bath in the microwave. Except I used a plastic cup. And it melted in less than 2 minutes. And there was purple dye running out of the bottom of my closed microwave door. And the inside is now half purple. Oops!
I wrote to Terry in his meeting and asked him to stop at the grocery store on the way home for some bleach-infused cleanser. When I told him what happened, his response was, “We’ll get it out. Or dye the rest of it purple.” It helps to have a level-headed husband when you’re a spaz. 🙂
So, I’ll see what I can do with floss colors, because I really like that fabric. I’m now thinking of a sepia tone to give it that old-fashioned photograph kind of feel. There’s a short vein of a brown-ish color in the fabric that I’m going to try to coordinate with.
Thanks for all of your advice! The frogging wasn’t too bad after all.
Think of it like this: not everyone has microwave oven with half-purple insides – maybe this will be the beginning of a new fashion. 😆
I wanna see the purple nuker!!! LOL Definitely a new fashion. Where do I get one?
A standing ovation to Terry. Level-headed men are the BEST! 😀
And a purple microwave – you might just be on to something there … the next big wave in interior design! 😀
LOL at your microwave mishap! That’s the sort of thing that happens to me. :o) I’m glad to hear the frogging wasn’t so bad. I know you said none of the purple floss you have works with the fabric, but did you try stitching with any of them? You know how sometimes the color looks different when you start stitching, in spite of the floss toss. Just a thought.
What a great story, Jenna! Lol!
Oh Jenna! This is just the sort of thing I would do! I think we are sisters in kluztiness! I’m with the others- I’d love to see how the microwave looks, mine has such a dull white interior!
Good Lord, woman! You’ll have to let us know if it comes out.
Now I want mine to be purple too! The manufacturers are always concetrating on the outside…..
I didn’t get to comment as soon as it went up- I love that fabric! Can’t wait to see how it comes out.
Oooooooh! Now I know how to get a new microwave! ;o)
Well, a purple microwave is very “Jenna”, I think 🙂 And Terry is just the best 🙂
Congrat to Terry for seeing the funny side of the situation:) At least it is a color you like!
oops! I should have read this post before commenting on the previous post. I’m having a terrible time keeping current with blogs.
So, did the purple come out???
I so need to read all of the posts before commenting!
The purple microwave makes me laugh, I think it’d keep it purple just for the fun of it 😉 And for what it’s worth, there’s some sort of outdoor bleach that DH loves – it’s more like jelly than normal bleach and it’s good for cleaning without making too much of a mess.
You may start a new trend Jenna, maybe you should patent it now.
