This year, I think I may give myself a gift for Christmas, and that is to take off the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Terry and I have plenty of vacation time and I’m feeling a bit like a candle that’s burning at both ends and the middle. If I time it right, I could take 5 days of vacation and have one very long 12-day weekend. 😉
I just happened to think about what kinds of crafty things I would like to work on and how it would be lovely to have a commitment-free stretch where I can stitch, knit or work on whatever tickles my fancy. I don’t have to finish anything, I can start new things willy-nilly; the goal is just to have fun. Wouldn’t that be nice?
The big key will be to keep my mind off of work. Which may be tough to do with all I have going on right now, the loose ends I’m trying to tie up, the new project I’m going to be starting, the old commitments that I’m going to have to still find time for and the people who are all depending on me for something or other. The additional anti-anxiety meds I have might come in handy for that, but hopefully I won’t need them.
It would just be nice to be free to do whatever I feel like from moment to moment, with no strings attached and nothing to worry about. I haven’t played my flute in a long time, nor have I sung in a while. I haven’t touched knitting needles in many, many months, despite having some new goodies to play with thanks to a certain yarn-enabling friend. Plus, with all of the stitching commitments I’ve been working on lately, it would really be nice to do whatever I want, for once.
So, I guess I’ll be shooing our houseguests out of the door come Boxing Day! 😀
That sounds like a fantastic and well-deserved plan! I am taking the week before Christmas off, just to rest, relax and stitch my heart out. I should have all of my committment stitching done by then, so I can stitch what I want. Won’t it be lovely?!
Hi Jenna! Sounds like a WONDERFUL idea!!! What time do you want me over so we can play??? LOLOL Don’t I wish…..I tell you crafting is a true salvation..it does take your mind off of things. 🙂 Maybe you could do some stamping too…like those pretty cards in your album…*hint hint* LOLOL
Love ya Jenna!!!

Sounds like a plan to me! 🙂 (And I promise not to come to knock your door… 😉 )
Can’t believe you play flute, too. Did you see mine on top of the bookshelf this weekend? Yup, that’s where it has sat for quite a few months. Taking a week off sounds like a really great idea, I hope you can relax.
With the way our vacation time at work is working out this year, I took 2 days off and will get 10 days between Dec. 23 and Jan. 1 (inclusive). Woohoo!! We get Dec. 25 and 26 off (the 26th for Boxing Day), as well as Dec. 27th this year since we didn’t take a day off for Remembrance Day (Nov. 11th).
We did the same thing last year and it was soooo nice to have the break. We didn’t have any plans after Boxing Day until New Year’s Eve and it was soooo worth it!
Your plan of taking a break between Christmas and New Year sounds perfect … what bliss to have some “me” crafty time, something we all need every now and then to recharge the creative batteries 🙂 Hope Phoebe is improving, the poor love – it’s awful when our furbabies are suffering 🙁 Love the latest SOLAK squares, BTW … your designs are really awesome, you did a great job of it 🙂
I worked someplace once where the plant was shut down every year between Christmas and New Year’s. We had to take the time off. Darn. Ya know, I really miss that part of that job. It was an awesome thing.
I think you should do it.
I found your blog through the Faery Glade. I think you are making a great decision. I too am taking off the 27th-2nd. I luckily will be somewhere with limited email and internet access.
I’m new to stitching and crafting in general, but wanted to say hello!
Oh, Jenna, a twelve-day vacation sounds like pure bliss, especially since you’re staying home and indulging yourself – no packing, no airports, no traffic! Can’t wait to see what you end up doing! 😀
