Today’s SBQ was suggested by Carol and is:
Have you ever participated in a needlework mystery (i.e., a design that you started before knowing how it will look in the end and by which you receive parts of the design via the internet, magazines, or leaflets at spaced intervals)? If so, why did you decide to do the mystery? What appealed to you about it? Did you enjoy it? If you have not done a mystery, would you ever do one?
Yes, I have actually now participated in a mystery. The Alchemy Stitchcraft Yahoo! group had a mystery sampler SAL a little while ago that I participated in. Correction: I’m still participating. I really hope to finish it one of these weekends, as it is pretty. It was relatively small and I like the designer, so I didn’t feel like it was a huge risk. As much as I like the Chatelaine designs, I don’t know that I would want to spend that much money until I’ve seen the finished product. Besides, I can’t manage to finish a design that huge, so until I actually stitch a few of her larger ones, I wouldn’t feel confident enough to do a mystery. 😉
I would definitely do a smaller one again, though. It was fun and relatively quick (or would have been, if I had kept up with it). One of these days, I’ll get the guts to sign up for some of Martina’s mini mysteries. The Romantic Castle series turned out beautifully. It’s just hard to justify the expense to keep up with them!
I agree with you about the Chatelaine designs – the cost has put me off with a few of them … but I had to succumb to the Egyptian Garden one – it’s the most I’ve ever spent on a design, though, and I can’t see me doing that again soon … buying the chart maybe, and buying the threads over a five year period, maybe, but not all at once LOL.
Hi Jenna – Starquest is the color of the week at Silkweaver right now, 20% off – they will change to a different color on Tuesday – you can find that under the “what’s new” tab, and scroll down to “color of the week” – they make it a little bit tricky to find! You can get 20% off any fabric count , fabric type and choice of 1/8, 1/4 or 1/2 yard – good deal!
