Well, Friday through Sunday were REALLY busy. Yesterday and today were perfect for vegetating. 🙂
Friday was long… very long. We weren’t able to leave work until sometime after 2:30. After that, we tried to get the oil changed in the truck, but all of the local Jiffy Lube places were running a 30 minute or more backup. We ended up skipping that part, but we did get gas on the way to CompUSA to pick up another firewall for home. Ours died the other day and the replacement wasn’t shipped when it was supposed to, so we had to buy another one to have something protecting our servers over the long weekend. We ended up finding just the right firewall, which was a lower level version of the replacement we had ordered (which finally arrived today), so it will make a good backup solution should we ever need it again. Anyway, by the time we got home, Terry configured the firewall, we ate some semblance of dinner and then packed up the truck, we didn’t end up getting on the road until 7:00 PM. We made the trip in 3.5 hours both ways, so it wasn’t too bad, but 10:30 PM is a little late to be getting in when it’s a long end to a long week.
Saturday was a warm day. I spent time in the morning talking to my dad, then some time talking with my mom about the storefront she wants to have for selling her hand crocheted baby clothes. Then my dad and I had a two-hour ping pong match. 🙂 It’s funny how quickly time passes, even if I was fairly overheated. Good exercise, I suppose; at least it’s something. Then we washed up and went to Long John Silvers for dinner. It may sound silly, but I LOVE Long John Silvers and there isn’t one in my area, so I don’t get it very often. That makes it a pleasant treat when I manage to make it up to my parents’ place. I had a platter with two pieces of fish, one piece of chicken and 4 shrimp. I was VERY hungry after the two hours of ping pong, so I ended up eating everything but one piece of shrimp. After dinner, we stopped by one of my dad’s hardware stores – the original one in Duncansville, below which they created some corporate offices a while ago. I hadn’t seen the office space yet, so it was nice to see what they’ve done. On the way home, we picked up two tubs of Meadows frozen custard. Yum!
Sunday was much cooler, but even busier for us. My grandparents came over for an early fourth of July lunch, during which we had some time to visit with them. We hadn’t seen my grandparents in maybe two years or so! After they left, we packed up the truck and headed down to Osterburg to visit my other dad. We got to tour their major fixer-upper project, an old parsonage house. It’s a beautiful old building, but it was let go terribly and needs a lot of work. It will be nice when they’re done with the renovations in a few years. We spent a few hours there and then headed back home. I don’t think I’ve been happier to be home, honestly.
Yesterday, we pretty much crashed. I worked on a model for a bit. We watched TV (though there wasn’t a lot on). Whole lot of nothing going on, really. Today was more of the same. I was able to finish the model, which is fortunate because my wrists are bothering me lately. Enough that the pain has backed up into the elbows and now today is causing pins and needles in my left hand.
And on that note, I’m going to stop typing and get ready for bed! Hopefully, some rest time in the splints overnight will help. 🙂
