New Computers

Here I am, running though the various, seemingly infinite number of tasks that are required when you acquire a new computer and have to move all of your data, programs, etc. to the new machine. My new laptop for work came in nearly two weeks ago and was just sitting around in the back, so I finally went out Wednesday morning and just grabbed it and all of the stuff that came with it. I only have so much patience, so when our desktop support guy (and yes, I should have sympathy for him, since I used to do that thankless job years ago) didn’t have a chance to get to it for a week and a half, I just had to take matters into my own hands.

I’m still pondering whether or not that was an intelligent decision. This is now day two of wasting time to get everything setup just the way I like it. Because I went from one monitor to two, I completely cleared my desk off and then started from scratch this morning. I think people thought I was either moving or had gotten fired! It is Friday, you know, and stranger things have been known to happen. Hahah! I’m still feeling my way around having lost a big chunk of desk space on the extra monitor and also the laptop. I wanted to set it up so that I could easily get to the laptop because the new docking stations are difficult to plug into. So now that’s taking up space, as well. It always feels nice to clean, though.

Color Test

Try this one on for size and see how you do: http://www.njagyouth.org/colortest.swf.

Make sure you REALLY read the instructions carefully! The first time I went through it, I got halfway and realized I was doing it wrong… whoops!

It’s quite an odd feeling to struggle so hard against your instinct to pick the right answers. You’ll be amazed. 🙂

Too Busy For Words

Seriously, it was a LONG day. I’m so tired that I tried to take a nap and got trapped somewhere between the waking world and lala land. Too tired to sleep; too tired to stay awake. I’m hoping that this isn’t an indication of what my sleep tonight is going to be like, because that will be WAY frustrating with how tired I am. But, I shouldn’t project…

Good news from last night. I got home late and then had to take advantage of the nice weather by going out and cleaning up the remnants of the tree in the front yard that is slowly ripped itself to shreds. There was so much to clean up over the winter that we gave up on the small stuff at one point, figuring that we would have the tree taken down before the spring and have to clean up after all of that anyway.

D’oh!

Today’s been an interesting day. It started off with me running late… then I get into work, get my laptop booted up just to have a calendar reminder pop up, telling me that I had a meeting in another building in 5 minutes! I forgot that I was supposed to start my day in another building and then come to my office. Ahhh crud…

There have been other mild frustrations throughout the day, as well. At least it was a beautiful day outside, though! I’m not sure what I would have done otherwise. At one point this afternoon, I dragged Terry outside so that I could vent in private and it did wonders to be out in the bright, warm sunshine.

On the plus side, I’m hoping to get a model stitching job for a new designer. She posted overnight to the MAD group and I responded today with a link to my stitching bio (which I promptly put onto my website, for easier reference) and links to my photo gallery. With any luck, it won’t go like the last time I tried to get a job with a new designer. She was so inundated with offers that she responded to everyone saying that it would take her a few days to wade through everything and pick some stitchers and that she would get back to everyone. I never heard from her again… until I started to see her posting references on the board for the stitchers that she had chosen and had already returned projects to her. Oh well. *sigh*

Oh, and just a random thought. Terry and I had a discussion last night about the word “doofus” which he thought was spelled “dufus.” Surprisingly, it is actually in the dictionary and, not surprisingly, I spelled it correctly. 😉

Closet Additions

Since I cleaned out my closet a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been trying to find clothes that will fit to re-stock it. You wouldn’t believe how many things I put in the donation pile because the arms or legs were just too short…

I placed an order at Chadwick’s last week for starters. It arrived on Friday and most of the items fit except for one pair of pants, so I now have two pairs of pants that are the proper length, a cute pink gingham skort and a nice little dressy outfit with silk georgette skirt that’s just for the heck of it.

Last night, I placed a whopping order at Land’s End for 5 pairs of pants, 3 turtlenecks and an exercise outfit. Set me back $250, but with any luck all of the pants will fit and I’ll be in much better shape with my wardrobe. If that works out, I think I’ll place an order at Newport News for just a couple of pairs of soft, colored jeans to round everything out and I’ll be done. At least until I go to find some shorts and some more shoes to go with all of these pants…

Old Stitching Progress

Okay, so it looks like I haven’t updated my stitching progress in a long time. Let me recap everything I have posted in my gallery since late February-ish.

First, I’ve completed a total of 6 SOLAK squares to be used in two different quilts.

One quilt had a Celtic theme (also dragons, but you’ll see shortly why I didn’t do any dragon squares), for which I stitched two squares in purple, which was the recipient’s favorite color. Here is Celtic Knot #1 and Celtic Knot #2. This quilt is already finished and in the hands of the recipient. It turned out beautifully, thanks to Sylvia Lyth who is one of the two coordinators of the SOLAK group and also one of the primary quilters. If you look closely, you’ll see my two squares in the top left and right corners of the quilt. And Gemma is such a pretty young woman (she’s in her early 20’s) who lives in the UK.

The second quilt has a dragon theme, hence why I chose to stitch the Celtic knots for Gemma’s quilt instead. I stitched a total of 4 dragon squares for this quilt, which has not yet been finished. One was called Small But Mighty and is a stylized, Oriental dragon. The other 3 squares were all from designs by Dragon Dreams – one entitled Dragon Love, the second named Christmyth Dragon and the third called Here Be Dragons.

Dreary Friday?

It’s overcast and spit has been flying from the sky every once in a while. Just enough to make me tired. All I can think about is going home early and taking a nap! 🙂 The stupid thing is, I actually could have gone home early because I’ll be putting in extra hours next week. However, there are preparations leading up to that which will probably keep me at work. Bummer…

Some free pizza for lunch and a little sugar in the form of a piece of cake appears to have perked me back up. Now it’s back to work. Crack that whip!

I should have some updates with pictures this weekend. I have at least one stitching finish in the last month (only one?!?!?) and probably some other miscellaneous stuff. I’ll get to that sometime… no promises. This is now the land of “I don’t have to do it if I don’t feel like it.” At least, at home it is. That’s one way to alleviate stress. That plus a checklist of the stuff I probably need to get done at some point. 🙂

I’ve Been Bad!

Bless me Father, for I have sinned. It’s been 3 weeks since my last blog entry…

I’ll do some Hail Marys, if it makes anyone feel better. Seriously, though, I think I might be back. Is it really me? I don’t know, let me check. Yep, looks like me, feels like me. I think I can officially declare that I’m out of the woods of my recent depression (that would be part of why I haven’t been posting) and pretty much back to normal at this point.

I could have made this declaration a week or two ago, but I think I was on an artificial high after a minor breakdown a couple of weekends ago. The pendulum was swinging the other way, nothing was affecting me, everything was good, yadda yadda… Now I think I’ve come back to the center. I’m back to getting angry with stuff and incredibly frustrated, but I seem to be able to let it go, which makes a big difference. Hopefully, I can continue like this and not have the stress build up again.

Anyway… nothing much going on, so it’s not like you’ve missed anything. I trying to rebuild my wardrobe after the closet cleanout, but it’s really hard for me to find tall, skinny pants that fit. I’m waiting for my order from Chadwick’s to come in and I’ll see how things fit. The next stop is Land’s End. And this month is extra paycheck month, so I might as well just take the plunge. I’m crossing my fingers that good taste will just magically find its way into my closet! 🙂

Closet Rebirth

Well, we were supposed to run a whole slew of shopping errands today, but the weather has caused a change in plans. It’s a bit wet out for being outside. I was out for a whole two minutes to sprint down to the mailbox and back and I got drenched. Made me realize that I need to wash my raincoat because the water is no longer beading up on the Gore-Tex shell. I think that washing is supposed to help renew the water repellency. I’ll probably ask someone in Fabrics when I’m at work on Wednesday.

Coincidentally, today’s entry in my “Simple Abundance” book is about cleaning out your closet. I’ve been contemplating this for a while and what better time to do it than a junky, rainy day? Everything that’s too old and worn, doesn’t fit or isn’t something I really like or would want to wear – goes. I have two piles, one for trash and one for donations. Fortunately, the donation pile is significantly larger than the trash pile. Most of my clothes are in good shape, I just don’t like a lot of them. And I have A LOT of turtleneck and long sleeve shirts on which the sleeves don’t actually manage to make it to my wrists. Plus, a lot of old t-shirts and baggy sweaters and so it goes…

I figure that this is good time to clean out, since we’re going shopping tomorrow. I’m ready to start adding new clothes to my wardrobe that fit a little more with my internal image. Time for a change!
