Dreary Friday?

It’s overcast and spit has been flying from the sky every once in a while. Just enough to make me tired. All I can think about is going home early and taking a nap! 🙂 The stupid thing is, I actually could have gone home early because I’ll be putting in extra hours next week. However, there are preparations leading up to that which will probably keep me at work. Bummer…

Some free pizza for lunch and a little sugar in the form of a piece of cake appears to have perked me back up. Now it’s back to work. Crack that whip!

I should have some updates with pictures this weekend. I have at least one stitching finish in the last month (only one?!?!?) and probably some other miscellaneous stuff. I’ll get to that sometime… no promises. This is now the land of “I don’t have to do it if I don’t feel like it.” At least, at home it is. That’s one way to alleviate stress. That plus a checklist of the stuff I probably need to get done at some point. 🙂

I’ve Been Bad!

Bless me Father, for I have sinned. It’s been 3 weeks since my last blog entry…

I’ll do some Hail Marys, if it makes anyone feel better. Seriously, though, I think I might be back. Is it really me? I don’t know, let me check. Yep, looks like me, feels like me. I think I can officially declare that I’m out of the woods of my recent depression (that would be part of why I haven’t been posting) and pretty much back to normal at this point.

I could have made this declaration a week or two ago, but I think I was on an artificial high after a minor breakdown a couple of weekends ago. The pendulum was swinging the other way, nothing was affecting me, everything was good, yadda yadda… Now I think I’ve come back to the center. I’m back to getting angry with stuff and incredibly frustrated, but I seem to be able to let it go, which makes a big difference. Hopefully, I can continue like this and not have the stress build up again.

Anyway… nothing much going on, so it’s not like you’ve missed anything. I trying to rebuild my wardrobe after the closet cleanout, but it’s really hard for me to find tall, skinny pants that fit. I’m waiting for my order from Chadwick’s to come in and I’ll see how things fit. The next stop is Land’s End. And this month is extra paycheck month, so I might as well just take the plunge. I’m crossing my fingers that good taste will just magically find its way into my closet! 🙂

Closet Rebirth

Well, we were supposed to run a whole slew of shopping errands today, but the weather has caused a change in plans. It’s a bit wet out for being outside. I was out for a whole two minutes to sprint down to the mailbox and back and I got drenched. Made me realize that I need to wash my raincoat because the water is no longer beading up on the Gore-Tex shell. I think that washing is supposed to help renew the water repellency. I’ll probably ask someone in Fabrics when I’m at work on Wednesday.

Coincidentally, today’s entry in my “Simple Abundance” book is about cleaning out your closet. I’ve been contemplating this for a while and what better time to do it than a junky, rainy day? Everything that’s too old and worn, doesn’t fit or isn’t something I really like or would want to wear – goes. I have two piles, one for trash and one for donations. Fortunately, the donation pile is significantly larger than the trash pile. Most of my clothes are in good shape, I just don’t like a lot of them. And I have A LOT of turtleneck and long sleeve shirts on which the sleeves don’t actually manage to make it to my wrists. Plus, a lot of old t-shirts and baggy sweaters and so it goes…

I figure that this is good time to clean out, since we’re going shopping tomorrow. I’m ready to start adding new clothes to my wardrobe that fit a little more with my internal image. Time for a change!

Last Day Before Vaca!

We decided to capitalize on having Good Friday off tomorrow, so I came up with the brilliant idea to take all of next week off. That means we get 10 days off for the price of 5. Not really, since we both have to come in to work on Wednesday for meetings and such, but close enough.

In fact, I can’t remember the last time we took time off just to hang out at home and relax. I don’t know that we’ve ever done it, but we definitely need it! So, I’m looking forward to being able to sleep in, eat junk, play games, stitch and whatever else I feel like doing for several days. Woohoo! 😀

However, I’ll probably end up doing some computer work. I think I’m ready to take a shot at redesigning my personal site again. I’ve had a rough sketch of the graphics done for a while, but am just too chicken to even try to figure out how to realize my vision in Photoshop. Now, I have some vague ideas of where to start, so I may give it a try. We’ll see what happens!

Manic Friday!

I am WOUND UP today, I tell you! Not sure what my problem is, maybe it’s sleep deprivation, maybe I screwed up my meds, who knows, but I am high as a kite, talking 90 miles a minute and making people laugh until we all have tears leaking out of our eyes. 🙂

Of course, I was up early today, so I fully expect to crash later. Especially now that my belly is full of food, finally. Oh yes, there’s a yawn…

Oh well, it was nice to be so chipper and full of energy for 8 hours!

Work VS. Prison

I’m sorry but these were too funny for me to be able resist posting them:

IN PRISON… you spend the majority of your time in an 8X10 cell.
AT WORK…you spend the majority of your time in a 6X8 cubicle.

IN PRISON… you get three meals a day.
AT WORK… you only get a break for one meal and you pay for it.

IN PRISON… you get time off for good behavior.
AT WORK… you get more work for good behavior.

IN PRISON… the guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you.
AT WORK…you must carry around a security card and open all the doors for yourself.

IN PRISON… you can watch TV and play games.
AT WORK… you get fired for watching TV and playing games.

IN PRISON… you get your own toilet.
AT WORK… you have to share with some idiot, who pees on the seat.

IN PRISON… they allow your family and friends to visit.
AT WORK. you can’t even speak to your family.

IN PRISON… the taxpayers pay all expenses with no work required.
AT WORK… you get to pay all the expenses to go to work and then they deduct taxes from your salary to pay for prisoners.

IN PRISON… you spend most of your life inside bars wanting to get out.
AT WORK… you spend most of your time wanting to get out and go inside bars.

IN PRISON… you must deal with sadistic wardens.
AT WORK… they are called managers.

Have a Great Day at WORK.

Top 10 Puns

Here are the 10 first place winners in the International Pun Contest:

1. A vulture boards an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The stewardess looks at him and says, “I’m sorry, sir, only one carrion allowed per passenger.”

2. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says “Dam!”

3. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can’t have your kayak and heat it too.

4. Two hydrogen atoms meet. One says “I’ve lost my electron.” The other says “Are you sure?” The first replies “I’m positive.”

5. Did you hear about the Buddhist who refused Novocain during a root canal? His goal: transcend dental medication.

6. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. “But why?”, they asked, as they moved off. “Because,” he said, ” I can’t stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer.”

NAS Weekend Failure

Well, I had good intentions to finish all of the NAS project this past weekend. What I didn’t plan on was being such a wreck on Sunday that I couldn’t stitch. So, I am still working on the other two projects.

Wildflower Hearts has been slow going, with a lot of frogging (rip-it, rip-it), first in the reverse fagot (no, that is not a slur, it’s the name of a stitch!) stitched diamond and then a couple of times on the third set of Rhodes stitches. Bah! I sat down last night and stitched all of the third set of Rhodes stitches. Of course, I figured out about 3/4 of the way through that I had started in the wrong direction and then turned the fabric and started going another direction, but at least it’s somewhat symmetrical. The stitches finish across the horizontal on the bottom half of the piece and across the vertical (the way that they should) on the top half. So, guess what… they’re staying just the way they are, so tough. In theory, I only need one more night to finish the outer bands of satin stitching on Wildflower Hearts and then I can move on to the last piece, on which, coincidentally, I need to work on the outer bands of satin stitching. Good thing the satin stitching is different between pieces or I would be bored out of my little skull. 🙂

So, yeah. I guess this is why I can’t go on a stitching retreat, regardless of any other circumstances holding me back. At least, not until my body stops betraying me, or I can stop forcing it to do so.

I’m doing well this week, so far, though. Allowing myself to completely veg on Sunday must have allowed me to purge my system of the after-effects of Friday’s migraine and too much stitching on Saturday. I’m just lacking in focus this week. Feeling ADD-ish. 😉 Speaking of feeling ADD-ish, I should get back to work.

Ciao!

NAS Weekend

Don’t expect to hear much from me this weekend. I had to leave work early yesterday with a migraine. I had a headache all day, as did at least 3 other people with offices near me, but it got really bad around 3 PM. I got dizzy and nauseous, so I finally gave up and went home. The ride home was miserable…

Anyway, the headache is gone now, but this weekend is NAS (Not Attending Savannah) stitching weekend. A group of cyberstitcher friends are at a stitching retreat in Savannah, Georgia this weekend, so some of us who weren’t able to go are trying to not only live vicariously through the attendees but we’re also attempting to reproduce the experience by stitching a project from each of the 3 designers who are teaching in Savannah this weekend. (Wow, what a run-on sentence!)

It’s an ambitious goal to finish all 3 projects this weekend, but we’ll see. So far, I have only finished the first project – a free bookmark design from Thea Dueck of The Victoria Sampler called Friends Count. I’ve scanned and posted a photo of my finished product.

Now, back to the second project – Wildflower Hearts by Catherine Strickler of Indigo Rose…
